Smart and sustainable communities: towards eco-responsible digital technology

Conference, 10 April 2025, Sophia-Antipolis
Sophia-Antipolis
Sophia-Antipolis
Following its previous conferences (Montrouge/Greater Paris, Labège/Toulouse), the European NGO eG4U (e-Green for users), in partnership with the standardisation organisation ETSI (European Telecommunications Standards Institute), is organising a day of talks and debates on the challenges facing local authorities and territories in the sustainable development of communication infrastructures for roads, green spaces, energy, and building construction and renovation… Register here: Registration: https://www.etsi.org/events/2467-etsi-sdmc-conference At a time of climate emergency, communication infrastructures, which benefit from spectacular technological advances (IoT, AI and open data, BIM and digital twins…), can be optimised in terms of sustainable development. In the smart city, communicating and automated buildings help optimise resources. Essential services such as security, energy and waste management become more efficient thanks to digital technologies. They must also meet sobriety requirements. Pooling resources, converging applications through open connectivity, and refurbishing and reusing equipment and rare materials are important levers. Hence the value of standardised interfaces and communication protocols enabling verifiable interoperability. This conference provides concrete answers drawn from field experience, covering energy, lighting, water quality, smart buildings, video and wireless transmission systems, waste treatment and recycling, etc. Main themes of the day: – Standardisation for sustainable and efficient digital technology – Interoperability, a factor of sovereignty within the EU – Living-in.EU, a European initiative for responsible digital technology in local authorities. – The overall environmental footprint of digital technology – Interoperability and IoT standards at ETSI – Measuring efficiency in eco-responsible buildings – Eco-design of digital infrastructures – OpendthX for construction and BIM data – What do local authorities need to control the decarbonisation of their digital activities? – A wireless network infrastructure in the field of education. https://www.etsi.org/events/2467-etsi-sdmc-conference
